Strategic Analysis and Planning with MATRIX V5
The MATRIX V5 / Microsoft* Excel Interface
The MATRIX V5 / Microsoft Excel Interface enables MATRIX V5,
to harness the mass of corporate, web and published research data without the need for re-keying. Tis unique feature
enables the user to fulfil the necessary data preparation function in a familiar environment, and cuts model creation
time to a fraction.
The key steps in the use of the MATRIX V5 / Excel interface are:
Generate the model structure within MATRIX V5. Define Scenarios, Products,
Markets, Competitors, Market Attractiveness Factors and Critical Success Factors within MATRIX
V5. Note the model contains default scores of zero (0) throughout.
Generate the Excel Workbook. Once structuring of the model in MATRIX
V5 is complete, a workbook is created at the click of a button. The Excel workbook is a structured
‘mirror image’ of the current model.
Populate Excel Workbook with data. Select the appropriate worksheet - e.g.
'Objectives', 'Revenue', 'Criteria' etc and populate with data as follows:
Key data directly into the worksheet
Cross reference against other cells within the current workbook. For example, a Market Attractiveness Factor
relating to 'market size' it may be cross referenced against data held within the 'Revenues' worksheet
Use Excel’s functionality to generate trends for future years based upon
historical data
Cross reference data from other Excel workbooks
Cut and paste data into the worksheet from tables in Microsoft Word
Obtain data from internet resources
Access data from the corporate database, (assuming that the
necessary data mining tools are available)
Access data from third party databases, including market research
databases.
Import Data into MATRIX V5. Once data preparation is complete,
data can be imported back into MATRIX V5. Data is typically imported in a matter of seconds.
Review Industry Standard Analysis. When the import process has
been successfully completed, it is possible to review the industry standard analysis that MATRIX
V5 provides, including Life Cycle Analysis, Share Analysis, Market Attractiveness, Competitive
Strength, The Boston Matrix, The Directional Policy Matrix, Perceptual Maps, Gap Analysis, and
Risk Analysis
The style of the Excel workbook can be customised by the user, and extensive
validation will ensure that keying errors (such as alpha characters in a numeric only field) will
be picked up during the import process.
